Black Buttes, 8028-feet, is a peak that can be climbed in a short day via Grouse Ridge Trail near the Emigrant Wilderness on the USDA Forest Service, Tahoe National Forest, California. The trail drops into a canyon and then descends on top of Sand Hill Ridge where you get your first glimpse of the peak. A very popular campground is located at the end of the trail called Glacier Lake. A snow field traverse in June got hikers to the ridge where you can then scramble to gain access to the summit.
